Dance Scottish Week - Kelvingrove Art Galleries 2009
To begin Dance Scottish Week 2009, Glasgow Branch held a "Come and Try" event at the Kelvingrove Art Galleries on Saturday, September 12, 2009. A number of Branch members and visitors from home and abroad gathered for dancing in the main hall at the recently refurbished Art Galleries. As the organist was finishing his recital, spectators gathered and occupied the seats placed around the "dance floor" and around the balcony which had a bird's eye view. Ex Chairman Jim Ferguson was our MC for the event. The dancing began with the Gay Gordons. John Carmichael was our musician. After a few dances in which the public were encouraged to join us, a group of pupils from Sandaig Primary school gave a very impressive display. After more general dancing Glasgow Branch Demonstration Team presented a couple of highly polished Medleys. There were several dances for everyone and the audience enthusiastically joined us on the floor, and all too soon the afternoon was over. Many congratulations are due to Pat McBride for organising this event in such spectacular surroundings.
