Dance Scottish Week - Kelvingrove Art Galleries 2008
The final event for Dance Scottish Week in Glasgow was held at the Kelvingrove Art Galleries on Saturday, September 20, 2008. A number of Branch members and visitors from home and abroad gathered for dancing in the main hall at the newly refurbished Art Galleries. As the organist was finishing his recital, spectators gathered and occupied the seats placed around the "dance floor" and around the balcony which had a bird's eye view. Vice Chairman Iain Hutchison introduced us and welcomed Jim Ferguson, was our MC for the event. The dancing began with the Gay Gordons. John Renton and Ricky Franci were our musicians for the afternoon. After a few dances the Demonstration Team presented a couple of highly polished Medleys. There were dances for everyone and the audience were invited to join us on the dance floor. Several were so enthusiastic they were keen to stay on the floor and try the more difficult dancer. More dances followed, then a short break, and another medley from the Demonstration Team. Members of the public were invited to join in "Barley Bree", then all too soon the afternoon was over. Many congratulations are due to Pat McBride for organising this event in such spectacular surroundings.
