Hawthorn House
Added on 03 December 2025
We were pleased to return to Hawthorn House for a third time with a programme of dances appropriate to St Andrew’s Day.
Being a return visit we started the dance programme with the reel Happy Returns – doubly appropriate as the date also marked the ‘birthday’ of RSCDS. We followed this with St Andrew’s Day and then St Andrew’s Fair. Sheena then entertained us with a poem extolling the virtues of Scotland, followed by some lovely waltz tunes played by our accordionist which encouraged a few of the residents to get up for some impromptu dancing. The programme then continued with Glasgow City Strathspey and Loch Ness Monster (for a wee bit of fun)! Ken was then persuaded to sing ‘Bonnie wee Jeannie McColl’ which prompted great singing from the residents. As Glasgow has been celebrating the 850th Anniversary of being given burgh status this year, we thought it was only right to include 2 dances connected to our home city so we finished off with Glasgow 850 – a new jig devised for children to mark the occasion by Glasgow Branch at the request of the Lord Provost.
As always, the audience seemed to enjoy their afternoon with many thanking us and telling us how much they had appreciated our visit as they left. Many thanks to dancers Susan, Sheena, Ken, Liz, Marion, Gale, Jane and Anne and to our regular accordionist, Billy, without whom none of this would have taken place.
