When one of my volunteer dancers, who also volunteers each week at the Hospice, suggested that we might take a team of dancers to one of their weekly Wellness sessions, I was happy to oblige.

These sessions consist of opportunities for patients and their friends, carers or families to meet for coffee and a chat and on occasion, enjoy some entertainment.

On Thursday 28th August we arrived at the Hospice where we were given a brief tour of the lovely building before getting down to the serious business of a practice.

Following our short lunchbreak, our ‘audience’ began to arrive.  When everyone was settled, we began our programme which of mainly well-known favourite dances, namely Irish Rover, Highland Rambler, Amazing Grace Strathspey, Good Hearted Glasgow, Raven’s Dance and Mairi’s Wedding.  To give the dancers a breather, midway through the programme, Sheena delighted everyone with one of her favourite poems – A Dug, A Dug – and Billy played a few waltz tunes which always go down well.  We were rewarded with a warm response from those present with lots of smiles and clapping along which was lovely to see.

Thanks to dancers Susan, Sheena, Gale, Ken, Liz, Blair, Debbie, Revathy and Anne and to our accordionist Billy for their enthusiastic participation which helped to make the afternoon such a success.   Anne Murray
