Walter receives Volunteer of the Year Award.

Celebrating Volunteers’ Week…..

Wonderful news that Walter Proven, a familiar face to many in our dance community,  has been honoured at the Scottish Parliament for his outstanding contribution to Scottish country dance.

Walter received a Volunteer Winner's Certificate in recognition of 14 years of dedicated work organising the Primary Schools Scottish Country Dance Festival in Bearsden and Milngavie.

Pam Gosal, MSP, was delighted to present a Volunteer of the Year winner's certificate to Walter Proven from Bearsden Festival at the Scottish Parliament.

“My East & West Dunbartonshire Volunteer of the Year 2025 Awards have been running for three years and have received numerous entries from across the region.

It was lovely speaking to Walter about organising the Children's Scottish Country Dance Festival, over the last 14 years, and about his support of the Bearsden Festival. He is an advocate for volunteering as it strengthens communities and feels it should be included in the Scottish school curriculum.

Thank you, Walter, for keeping Scottish dance at the forefront and for encouraging better social skills, cultural awareness and exercise through traditional dance.
