Delights in Govan

Added on 03 March 2023

It was with great pleasure that a team of 8 volunteers from Glasgow Branch arrived at St Francis Care Home, Govan on Wednesday 1st March. Our purpose was to provide the afternoon activity on World Music Therapy Day. The music, provided by Billy Gray worked wonders on both the audience, staff and dancers. Our imaginary bus journey began in “Good Hearted Glasgow, took a trip on “The Irish Rover to the “City of Belfast”, followed by a stop in London to see “The Raven`s Dance” before journeying on to listen to the “Shiftin Bobbins” of Lancashire and finally just home in time to get changed for “Mairi`s Wedding”. We had entertainment provided enroute by Sheena Whiteford who recited “A Dug, A Dug” and “The boy on the train”. The twenty residents tapped toes, clapped enthusiastically and hummed along, especially when Billy played an impromptu selection of Scottish songs and waltzes. The afternoon finished with hands clasped whilst singing “Auld Lang Syne”. Thanks to Debbie MacAlees for helping to perfect our dancing skills and to the activity co-ordinator of the home. We left as firm friends and have been invited back to spread cheer, hope, joy and affection once more. None of this would have been possible without the support of the volunteer dancers.
