Hawthorn House
Added on 09 October 2024
It was with pleasure that, some months ago, we accepted an invitation from the activities organiser of Hawthorn House Care Home in the north of the city to perform some Scottish Country Dances for the residents.
As this was our first visit, we started off the afternoon with a brief introduction to the dancers and musician followed by the dance, Happy Meeting. We continued with some favourite dances namely Good Hearted Glasgow, Shiftin’ Bobbins, Friendships, Postie’s Jig and Mairi’s Wedding. The dances were interspersed with a wee bit of audience participation while our accordionist played some well know Scottish waltz tunes and Sheena gave us a very animated version of the poem ‘A Dug, A Dug!’. The residents present seemed to enjoy their afternoon with dances accompanied by enthusiastic clapping and singing of familiar songs. We brought the visit to a traditional close with everyone present joining in the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
As always, I am most grateful to volunteer dancers, Douglas, Ina, Ken, Liz, Susan, Sheena, Marion and Anne and our accordionist Billy for giving their time and allowing us to bring the fun and enjoyment of Scottish Country Dancing out into the community.
