Celebration for St Francis

Added on 04 October 2023

We were delighted to be invited back to St Francis Care Home in Govan to participate in their St Francis Feast Day celebrations.  The volunteers were met with bunting, banners and balloons and the staff and residents ready for a party!  Our musician, Billy, set the scene by playing some well-known Scottish songs leading to some impromptu singing.  The dances performed were chosen to fit in with the theme of celebration, care for each other and the environment.  These included Happy Returns, Raven’s Dance, Snowdrops in the Glen, Friendships, Centenary Jig and Good-Hearted Glasgow.  Sheena delighted everyone with 2 recitations relating to the theme of the day - ‘Wellies with patches’ and the St Francis Peace Prayer.  The afternoon was rounded off with staff and residents joining our dancers in a waltz accompanied by lovely music from Billy.  In good Scottish tradition we brought the celebration to a close with Auld Lang Syne.  The afternoon was voted a great success by all.  I am most grateful to our volunteers for giving up their day with a walk-through of the dances in the morning and performing in the afternoon.  A special thank you to Debbie for stepping in at very short notice (a couple of hours!) as a member had to call off that morning due to illness.  Many thanks to Billy Gray for playing for us.
